OUR STORY

Ed Wojan Realty is the name people think of when they think of real estate on Beaver Island
. Ed has been selling homes and lots on every part of the island for 32 years. If you want to know the possibilities for your property, Ed is the one to ask. The best way to really find out how a real estate broker works is to ask the people who own property on the island what they think. We encourage you to do so.
For about the last ten years our office has sold more Beaver Island property than all of the other real estate agencies here combined.
Ed Wojan  Realty usually sells every year at least 52 properties ( we have sold up to 70 properties in a single year).  Our record shows how we work at selling.  Below you will find Ed Wojan Realty's sales by number of sales each year and dollar volume each year from 1998.

During the 2007 to 2009 period real estate sales have been very slow - even on Beaver Island.  During the last half of 2008 real estate was not selling at all.  Even in slow years, however, we work very hard at and succeed in making sales.  During 2009 we still had 24 sales - about half of a normal year - but the sales totaled $3,909,250.  No other agency on Beaver Island has a record like this.                          To date in 2010 we have closed 4 sales totaling $637,000.

Buying from Ed and his company gives you the opportunity to experience service that is rare in today's real estate market. Ed and his staff take care of every detail. Ed is an expert at handling all the obstacles that might come up when you buy in such a remote area. Ed has a network of service providers who know how to get even the most difficult problem solved.

Ed Wojan is the longest licensed real estate Broker on Beaver Island; he started selling property full time on July 7, 1976.  He is the man who will handle your actual buying or selling.  Ed is a 5th generation Islander.  His mother's family, the McDonoughs, came here in 1858 and his dad's family came here logging in 1935.  Except for the four years he spent away at college Ed has lived and worked on the Island all his life.  His degree was in finance at the University of Detroit, but he took a lot of business law and marketing courses during his four years at the business college.  After finishing college in 1969 he worked in Detroit for one year while his wife Connie finished her last year at the University of Michigan.  Ed and Connie have three children.
With Bill Cashman, he did the first good map of the Island in 1977 and in July of 2006 he finished with Jeff Cashman, Bill's son, the 2nd Wojan-Cashman map of Beaver Island.  It's safe to say that no one knows Beaver Island and its properties better than Ed Wojan.  He has not only mapped it, but traveled it all his life and he has done most of the major lakefront subdivisions and most of the newer plats in recent years.

Ed has been a leader in setting up Beaver Island as a resort and retirement community.  He has also helped most governmental bodies and most of the Island's organizations at one time or another with the real estate parts of their projects.

Associate Broker Kathy Speck handles much of the paperwork. Kathy started with Ed when Ed Wojan Realty moved into its new office in March of 1980.  She had been coming to the Island since she was a child vacationing every summer with her family.  In 1977 she moved here with husband Rick and their 3 children (who graduated from BICS) to help her mother run Rafferty's Store.  Kathy is President of the Beaver Island Chamber of Commerce and is very involved with the B.I. Christian Church.  She is the director of her church choir and the Community Choir.  Kathy is a vital asset to Ed Wojan Realty and the Beaver Island Community.

Diane McDonough is the voice you will hear when you call into the office.  Diane has been coming to the Island since 1983; she moved here in August of 1998 with husband Jim McDonough (one of the owners of McDonough's Market) and their 3 children.  Diane started with the Ed Wojan Realty team in November of 1999.  Prior to moving to the Island Diane was employed at Spartan Headquarters in Corporate Billing for a year and was an Office Manager at Absopure Water Co. for 9 years.  Diane was the President of the Beaver Island Sports Boosters for 10 years plus she organized and ran the summer softball program on the island for 9 years.   Currently Diane is the coach for the Girls Basketball Team.

Rick Speck covers the bookkeeping and computer troubleshooting in our office. Rick owns his own business: Beaver Island Management Services (BIMS) which offers bookkeeping and management services for businessess and individuals on the Island.  Rick moved here with his wife Kathy in 1977.  He is involved in and a strong supporter of the sports programs on the Island.  Rick also serves on several Community boards where his expertise in financing is highly regarded.  Rick was in the Air Force for four years then continued his education ending up with a Masters Degree in business from Wayne State University.

Together their one goal is to make your Beaver Island real estate transaction a smooth and successful experience.
